Personality Disorders

Personality disorders are long-term patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are deeply ingrained and differ from societal expectations. These patterns often create difficulties in relationships, self-image, emotional regulation, and impulse control. Some of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders include: • Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) – marked by emotional instability, intense relationships, and fear of abandonment. • Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) – involves a sense of entitlement, lack of empathy, and need for admiration. • Avoidant Personality Disorder – characterized by extreme sensitivity to rejection and social inhibition. • Antisocial Personality Disorder – includes a disregard for others’ rights, often with manipulative or deceitful behavior. Treatment can be challenging but is highly effective with the right support.

At Afe Behavioral, we use approaches such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic therapy to help individuals gain insight, build emotional regulation skills, and foster healthier relationships.
