Bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder characterized by intense emotional states that alternate between manic or hypomanic highs and depressive lows. During a manic phase, individuals may feel unusually energetic, euphoric, or irritable, with reduced need for sleep, impulsive decision-making, or risky behaviors. In contrast, depressive episodes can bring extreme sadness, fatigue, and loss of interest in daily activities. There are several types of bipolar disorder, including: • Bipolar I Disorder – defined by manic episodes lasting at least 7 days or requiring hospitalization, often followed by depressive episodes. • Bipolar II Disorder – involves a pattern of depressive episodes and hypomania, without full-blown manic episodes. • Cyclothymic Disorder – involves periods of hypomanic and depressive symptoms that are less severe but more chronic. At Afe Behavioral, we provide thorough assessments and individualized treatment plans, including mood-stabilizing medications, therapy, and lifestyle support. Our goal is to help clients manage symptoms, prevent relapse, and maintain a balanced, stable quality of life.
